Members of ParIT Worker Co-operative
Andrew Orr
andrew(at)parit.ca
Andrew is a student at the University of Manitoba currently finishing up his Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science. He started programming at an early age and quickly taught himself how to write code that would run on his gameboy. In high school he became very interested in computer and network security and was subsequently barred from using the school's computers after some experimental network activities. This only made him more interested in security and contributed to his employment as a co-op student with the Province of Manitoba as a Security Analyst. He prefers VIM, likes breaking things so he can fix them again and enjoys treasure hunting as a form of relaxation.
Jamie Campbell
Jamie is a computer programmer who moved to Winnipeg from British Columbia to work at a worker co-op restaurant, and a year later found himself computer programming again, but this time for the ParIT worker co-op. He seeks to find synergy in developing software to simultaneously benefit both co-ops, as well as the pareconic federation as a whole.
David Henry
Invited to the first ParIT meeting after being discovered dumpster diving for computer parts, David is a veteran of inner-city life and brings a strong commitment to community economic development (CED) as well as broad experience with small organizations and worker-owned co-ops. He has been involved in various capacities in untold numbers of activist campaigns or projects, including environmental, human rights, anti-poverty, literacy and democracy-building.
Otherwise employed as a graphic artist, David has accumulated considerable organizational skill with communications as well as financial planning. In his spare time, he builds heavy-duty worktables and computing desks or takes long walks.
David actually hates computers, as he prefers to work standing up. However, he is commited to making computing a fast and easy productivity aid that increases the amount of time people have for enjoying other things in life. He also finds computers to be essential to fighting the most socially-offensive aspects of capitalism.
Mark Jenkins
Arrogant, hacker/tinker. Helped kick start the co-op right after earning a bachelor of computer science (honours) in 2006, so he has never worked a full-time job in the mainstream economy. Plans to never do so.
Sloppy in appearance, but often super cautious in his work. Willing to get very deep into detail, hyperfocus, and lose track of time - but can also be highly distractable if torn in too many directions. Specializes in GNU/Linux system administration, python programming, and problem solving. Knows way too much. Posts to his webblog sometimes.
